When you begin wedding planning there are so many details to iron out. Couple often times get so overwhelmed with bigger decisions such as venues, photographers, catering etc. It’s completely understandable. Let’s take a moment to focus on one detail that is woven throughout the entire wedding: stationary and signage. It’s certainly more common for couples to use tools such as paperless post to send out save the dates and even the wedding invitations. Every couple is different so go the route that fits your style! Let’s say you choose to go that route, don’t forget it’s helpful to have signage on the day of the wedding. We know how confusing it can be to decide on what stationary and signage is necessary. Let’s face it, there is such a thing as too much signage.
Here’s a quick breakdown of stationary and signage that we feel can benefit you on the big day!

- Signage to specify locations. Have you ever been a wedding guest and had no clue where the reception was? Or maybe the layout of the venue was confusing? This is where signage can come in very handy. As the host, you want to ensure that guests are not struggling to find parking or the actual ceremony/reception site. Pro tip: Create easy to read signs. We love beautiful calligraphy but when it comes to signage, we suggest keeping it clean and simple. We thought these rustic wood arrows were a sweet little touch for an outdoor wedding. You can’t go wrong with a simple easel sign either!
- Reserved Seating. This one is dependent on how structured you would you ceremony/reception to be. Traditionally immediate family is sat in the first few rows during the ceremony. Most guests are aware of this however it doesn’t hurt to ensure there is no confusion during the ceremony. The last thing you want is your grandmother looking for a seat and sitting at the very back. Pro Tip: Make sure your coordinator is aware of any special seating for the immediate family. They can ensure that immediate family finds the correct seating so you don’t have to stress!
- Seating Chart. There are certainly many opinions on having a seating chart. We understand it may seem a bit formal but organization can take away stress. This gives guests direction on where they will be during the reception. Additionally, you can ensure that the tables have the right balance of guests who would be comfortable together. Last but not least this is also an easy way to separate people that won’t get along. The reception is a time for you to enjoy and relax. You don’t want anything to upstage this sweet moment! There are so many wonderfully creative options. We especially love this diy option with butcher paper and this fun surf board creation.

Invitations, Save the dates and RSVP cards: We are giving these their own section because there are so many options! More and more couples are opting to choose sustainable options when it comes to invitations, save the dates, and rsvps. That is a personal choice so we suggest doing what makes you happy! Here’s a breakdown of some great alternatives.
- Go digital! In today’s world, it’s not that uncommon to send out electronic invites. Consider using sites like paperless post. There is some cost associated but it can be significantly lower than using physical paper products. Another great option is using wedding website tools such as the knot or with Joy. Both tools offer a variety of ways to reach out to guests and provide all the info they need online.
- Use an alternative to regular cardstock! Consider using recyclable materials. Etsy is a great place to find an assortment of great products. We also think Botanical Paperworks is a great route to go. Yes you’re hearing it right! It’s plantable paper! It’s a biodegradable eco-paper made with post-consumer and post-industrial paper waste that is embedded with seeds. (No trees harmed for this paper!) When the paper is planted in a pot of soil, the seeds grow and the paper composts away. All that is left behind is flowers, herbs or vegetables, and no waste.
